Live Dealer Roulette

The game of roulette originated in France in the late 18th Century. Since the 1800´s Roulette became the most famous and popular casino game, spreading all over Europe and the United States. This is no different from present day online casino Roulette. Online Roulette is considered one of the most popular online casino games offered, especially for online live casinos.

We are fortunate to live in a time where technology allows us to participate in an online live Roulette game via webcam video and audio feed. Live Roulette has the same rules as land-based Roulette. The online player plays against the house (the live dealer/croupier). Webcam Roulette allows us to see the live dealer as well as hear him or her, giving us players the confidence that the game is for real and in real time. I am sure most of you are very attracted to this type of online Roulette since RNG (Random Number Generated) Roulette may not always be as “random” as it pretends to be. There are 37 (European wheel) or 38 (American wheel) number pockets in the Roulette wheel, alternating from red to black. In American Roulette the wheel consists of two zero pockets. One is a single zero pocket and the second is a double zero pocket. The zero pocket numbers are always green.

The following are the number sequence on the different roulette wheels:

Single-zero wheel: 0 - 32 - 15 - 19 - 4 - 21 - 2 - 25 - 17 - 34 - 6 - 27 - 13 - 36 - 11 - 30 - 8 - 23 - 10 - 5 - 24 - 16 - 33 - 1 - 20 - 14 - 31 - 9 - 22 - 18 - 29 - 7 - 28 - 12 - 35 - 3 -26

Double-zero wheel: 0 - 28 - 9 - 26 - 30 - 11 - 7 - 20 - 32 - 17 - 5 - 22 - 34 - 15 - 3 - 24 - 36 - 13 - 1 - 00 - 27 - 10 - 25 - 29 - 12 - 8 - 19 - 31 - 18 - 6 - 21 - 33 - 16 - 4 - 23 - 35 - 14 - 2

If you have not taken a look at what a live Roulette wheel and table may look like in a live croupier casino, then please see the image below.

As you can tell, the Roulette table is a replica of a bricks and mortar casino Roulette table. So, just as the rules are the same, so is the Roulette wheel and table. There are no hidden tricks in order to play successfully. It is all very straight forward for even the least experienced online players. Most live casinos offer helpful guides while playing at the Roulette wheel so you do not feel lost in cyber space.

The online players can bet on a variety of “inside” bets and “outside” bets. The inside bets are when the players select the pocket number the ball will fall into or range of pockets based on their position. The outside bets are when the players select the bets based on positional groupings of pockets, the colors, or whether the number is odd or even. The payout is based on the probability of the outcome. Roulette bets are made very easily when playing live online and as I mentioned previously, most live casinos offer guides in order to remind a player what betting options are available. The minimum and maximum bets vary in each online casino.

Inside bets

Please see the roulette layout image below to the rigth in case you need a reference guide.

  • Straight-up: a bet made on a single number. The chip is placed exactly on the middle of a number square. In live Roulette the casino software will automatically place the chips in the middle of the number square for you.
  • Split: a bet made on two adjacent numbers, either on the vertical or horizontal (as in 14-17 or 8-9). The chip is placed on the line between these numbers.
  • Street: a bet placed on any three numbers on a horizontal line. The chip is placed on the edge of the line of the three numbers and at the end of this line (either the left or the right, depending on the layout).
  • Corner (or square): a bet on four numbers in a square layout (as in 32-33-35-36). The chip is placed at the horizontal and vertical intersection of the lines between the four numbers.
  • Six Line: a bet on two bordering streets, with the chip placed at the corresponding intersection. For example, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24.
  • Trio: a bet on the crossing point between 0, 1 and 2, or 00, 2 and 3.

Outside Bets

Outside bets usually have smaller payouts because they have better odds at winning. Outside bets always loose when a single zero or double zero show up on the roulette wheel.

  • 1 to 18: a bet on one of the first eighteen numbers.
  • 19 to 36: a bet on one of the last eighteen numbers.
  • Red or Black: a bet on whether the color red or black will show up on the roulette wheel.
  • Even or Odd: a bet on an even or odd number.
  • Dozen Bets: a bet on the first dozen (1-12), second dozen (13-24), or third dozen (25-36).
  • Column Bets: a bet on all 12 numbers of any of the three vertical lines (such as 1, 4, 7, 10 down to 34). The chip is placed on the space below the final number in the column.

Called (or Call) bets

There are different number series in roulette that have specific names assigned to them. Some live online casinos offer these types of bets or variations of these at their live roulette game. The number series are based on the position of these numbers on the roulette wheel.

  • Voisins du zero ("neighbors of zero"):  This is a name for the numbers which lie between 22 and 25 on the wheel including 22 and 25. The series is 22,18,29,7,28,12,35,3,26,0,32,15,19,4,21,2,25 (on a European roulette wheel).
  • 9 chips or multiples of 9 are bet. 2 chips are placed on the 0,2,3 trio; 1 on the 4/7 split; 1 on 12/15; 1 on 18/21; 1 on 19/22; 2 on 25/26/28/29 corner; and 1 on 32/35.

  • Tiers ("the third"): This is the name for the numbers which lie on the opposite side of the wheel between 27 and 33 including 27 and 33. The series is 27,13,36,11,30,8,23,10,5,24,16,33 (on a European roulette wheel).
  • 6 chips or multiples of 6 are bet. 1 chip is placed on each of the following splits: 5/8; 10/11; 13/16; 23/24; 27/30; 33/36. A variant known as "Tier 5,8,10,11" has an additional chip placed straight up on 5, 8, 10 and 11; and so is a 10-piece bet.
  • This is also called the "Small Series" It includes the following wagers which are all Splits 5/8, 10/11, 13/16, 23/24, 27/30, 33/36

  • Orphelins ("orphans"): These numbers make up the two slices of the wheel outside the Tiers and Voisins. They contain a total of eight numbers, the Orphans comprising 17,34,6 and the Orphelins being 1,20,14,31,9.
  • 5 chips or multiples thereof are bet. 1 chip is placed straight-up on 1 and 1 chip on each of the splits: 6/9; 14/17; 17/20 and 31/34.

Once the live dealer calls out “No more bets”, which you can actually hear clearly from the webcam audio feed, and you can see the croupier spin the Roulette wheel in one direction and spin the ball in the opposite direction, your bets must have been placed with the online casino. You will see that when playing live roulette your bets are made in the same exact manner as if you were at a real-life casino. You have complete interaction with the live dealer. If for some reason you turn away from your computer screen once “No more bets” are called and you have placed a bet above or below the minimum or maximum betting wages, you have no need to worry. None of your chips will have been taken out from under you. Instead, the live casino automatically returns the chips to your pot.

Once the ball slips into the number slot the croupier will make the winning call. In a live roulette game you will ALWAYS be able to see the winning number and color for yourself via the video streaming. The live croupier will place a marker on the winning number of the roulette table layout just like in a real-life roulette game. The dealer will then proceed to sweep away all of the loosing bets (as you can see in the image to the left) and return with the payouts for the winning inside or outside bets. As in a bricks and mortar casino, new bets can only be placed once the marker has been removed from the roulette table layout. You will be able to clearly see that the live dealer is ready for the next bets once the marker has been removed. You will also be able to hear the casino dealer call out “Place your bets”. It is hard to go wrong with such intimate interaction with the live croupier and the helpful guides all live casinos offer their players.

When you win at live roulette you can collect your payouts via the withdrawal methods each live online casino offers their players. Most casinos have a large list of depositing and withdrawal methods. Usually, if you use a certain system to deposit money into your gaming account, this means you can also use it to make your withdrawals. This makes it easy for us players to enjoy playing live roulette to the fullest.

The most important thing to keep in mind when you choose a live dealer casino that offers real roulette is to make sure the game is an exact replica of a land casino. Of course, every casino has their own minimum and maximum bets and wagering requirements, but other than that all else should be as if you were sitting at a real-life roulette table. You need to be able to see and hear the live croupier and you also need to be able to place your bets the same exact way as if you were at a bricks and mortar casino. So now it is time for you to choose which live casino works best for you. Please check Coco Loco’s casino reviews in order to get an idea where to start having fun!
